Interview Toby Lees

I am Toby Lees, 23, and I am a Centre Back who plays in the National League North for Alfreton Town. Growing up in a footballing family background I have always been around football and it is something which has been ever present in my life, from being a supporter as well as actually playing. Being a defender, I always watched the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, who were very good footballers technically but most importantly were very traditional defenders in terms of making sure they did their job first-defend.

Interview Ben Turner

Grew up in Birmingham. Son of a gardener. Always wanted to be a footballer or the next Linford Christie. By senior school I knew football was my best chance. I always loved Roy Keane. He was so serious about the same and put everything on the line to win and I loved that growing up. The biggest difference in my position was the size and strength of the strikers I was up against. I caught the back end of the era of dele Adebola, Darius Henderson’s of the championship. It was get strong and tough or forget about a career at centre back.

Interview Emmanuel Onariase

My name is Emmanuel Onariase, and I’m a right footed central defender. Both ball playing and no nonsense defender, adaptable to both depending on what the manager wants. Eat well in the week, sleep on time, do extras after training/ stretching & meditation. Keep my routine consistent. Massive because being tall, I didn’t have the best technical/dribbling ability so during my time it improved my technique and skill level massively. I learnt game understanding too.

Interview Marvin Ekpiteta

My name’s Marvin Ekpiteta and I currently play for Blackpool FC. I’ve been playing local football in north London from around 8 years old until 16 when I signed for Oxford United. I spent 3 years with Oxford United’s youth team and after I was released I dropped down and played part time. I played part time for 3.5 years until I was picked up by Leyton Orient and was back playing full time football….

Interview Noah Smerdon

I’m a Gloucester lad who spent time at West Brom before declining a scholarship to focus on my A levels. It’s always been very important and as long as the enjoyment is there I can think of doing nothing less. I’d say strengths are my 1v1 defending as I grew up as a CB and moving over to full back 1v1 situations arise a lot and I love the battles. I’m also composed on the ball and would say I’m quite technical.

Interview Luke Waterfall

My name is Luke waterfall , I am 29 years old and play for Grimsby Town FC in the League 2. I would say I am an old school type of centre back. I like to defend first and for most and organise the team on the pitch. I joined Barnsley at 13 years old and went through to the u18s with them. At the time the club was in the championship , and likelihood of playing at the time was probably slim. The first team manager wanted players who would be ready for the first team, and released all my age group…
