Interview Ryan Fryatt

I’d describe myself as an old school type of defender, putting my head in where some people wouldn’t think of putting their foot, love a tackle and don’t mess about. I was introduced to football by my dad at a young age and never really looked back, as a youngster I started as a midfielder but was moved to defence as I was the tallest in my team and from there on I played as a defender. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, Vidic was a tough centre back and loved a challenge like myself, Rio Ferdinand was more of a technical defender who was good on the ball…

Interview Joshua Askew

I’m a football obsessed 22 year old, players I’ve played with or managers would say I’m the oldest acting 22 year old going. Specific qualities would be being athletic/quick/strong/powerful/stamina but I’d say as the biggest quality is a footballing brain – reading the game and understanding the game. Growing up I looked up at Trevor Sinclair, Darius Vassell, Shaun Wright Phillips they were City’s best players at the time I was a big city fan growing up and still am now.

Interview Samir Nabi

My name is Samir Nabi and I currently playing for Hereford FC. I’m a ball playing midfielder who can create opportunities and score goals. I break things down more with interceptions than tackles. Yeah I was always one of the players who liked to get involved with the goals whether it was scoring them or assisting them. In that season I think I ended up with plus 12 goals. My youth experiences were good, always enjoyed the competition of playing against other big clubs and trying to stand out.

Interview Alex Whitmore

I think I can be classed as an out and out defender first and foremost. I enjoy the heading, blocking and tackling more than anything, but I do like to try and find a pass and bring the front lads in to play as much as I can. I think looking at it objectively my career reads like a slip down the leagues, but I don’t see it that way. I’ve made decisions best for me regarding the clubs I’ve joined and other times things haven’t worked in my favour. I’ve played across 4 leagues in my career and also in the youth systems at 18 and 23s levels so I’m fairly well versed across the board.

Interview Simeon Maye

I’m Simeon Maye, from Birmingham. I work at a Primary school as a learning mentor. I support the better side of Manchester and I enjoy beating everyone at badminton! Ever since I was young I’ve been good at long distance running. So I’d say a big quality of mine is getting around the park for 90 minutes, landing on seconds and bringing other into play. In my senior career I started off at Boldmere St Michaels. Was there for 2 years before moving to Redditch United. Was also there for 2 years before joining Hednesford Town. Short spell there only there for 5 months before moving to Solihull Moors.

Interview Toby Lees

I am Toby Lees, 23, and I am a Centre Back who plays in the National League North for Alfreton Town. Growing up in a footballing family background I have always been around football and it is something which has been ever present in my life, from being a supporter as well as actually playing. Being a defender, I always watched the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, who were very good footballers technically but most importantly were very traditional defenders in terms of making sure they did their job first-defend.
