First for Fitzpatrick!:

At 27, English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick won his first Major at the US Open. He was one shot ahead of the Americans Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.

There had been Scottie Scheffler at the Masters and Justin Thomas at the US PGA, there is now Matthew Fitzpatrick at the US Open. The English golfer has indeed won the third Major of the year, this Sunday on the greens of Brookline, in Massachusetts. Co-leader before the last day, the 27-year-old native of Sheffield did not hesitate to win his first Major, having finished fifth in the last US PGA. Fitzpatrick scored 68 on Sunday, with five birdies for three bogeys, and he finished ahead of Americans Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris by one stroke. The latter therefore finished second in a Major for the third time in just over a year. And he will be able to harbor big regrets, because on the last hole, his ball did not go in for a few millimeters, and he therefore could not snatch the play-off.

Fitzpatrick’s “Dream”

” I have no words. It’s what you dream of growing up. It’s something I’ve worked so hard for for so long. My first victory. In a Major. There is nothing better,” commented Fitzpatrick, 18th player in the world, who becomes the first Englishman since Justin Rose in 2013 to win the US Open. That year, Fitzpatrick won the US Open amateurs. Author of a magnificent last day (card of 65), Hideki Matsuyama finished at the foot of the podium, while defending champion Jon Rahm, third one stroke behind the leaders on Saturday evening, completely missed out (card of 74) and finished twelfth. See you now in a month on the side of St-Andrews, for the British Open, where Tiger Woods should be present. Frenchman Victor Perez is also qualified for this prestigious tournament.
