Mission accomplished for the Blues

This Sunday, the French women’s volleyball team won the 2022 edition of the Golden League, after their victory in the final against the Czech Republic 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-14). Les Bleues open their record with a first international title.

The last word for France! This Sunday, on the side of the Palais des Sports in Orléans and in front of an audience necessarily entirely committed to its cause, the French women’s volleyball team won the 2022 edition of the European Golden League. In the final, Les Bleues quietly disposed of the Czech Republic 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-14). After a rather well-controlled first round (25-22), the French women then had some great scares in the second, with many errors in attack.

Mistakes that could have cost the proteges of Emile Rousseaux dearly. At that time, the Czechs managed to recover at 22-22. But the Blues ended up having the last word, tearing themselves away (27-25), under the leadership of Amanda Sylves or even Lucille Gicquel. The latter, named best player of the match, even managed to bring hers to 23-23 in the second set, when the Czechs had then taken the lead, for the very first time, in this famous second set.

First international title for France

In the process, the Czechs even managed to afford a set point, but without success. To the delight of French women, of course. A denouement which certainly then played out in the third and final set. The Czechs, yet so close to equalizing at one set everywhere, just before, ended up foiling. A set where they counted up to eight lengths behind (13-5).

Immediately after, however, they had a burst of pride, but their 5-0 was not enough to destabilize the French, then guilty of relaxation. Les Bleues ended up pulling themselves together, with a scathing 11-4 to end this game (25-14). The French team wins the very first international title in its history. At the end of this month of July, near Zadar in Croatia, the Bleues, already assured of their place since their half, will compete in the Challenger Cup, a tournament where eight selections will compete to try to win a ticket for the 2023 edition of the League of Nations.
