The Italian Niccolo Bonifazio won the last stage of La Route d’Occitanie in a sprint. A race won in the general classification by Michael Woods ahead of Carlos Rodriguez and Jesus Herrada.
The Route d’Occitanie ended this Sunday, in the heat and the wind, and it was Niccolo Bonifazio and Michael Woods who finished with honors! The Italian won the last stage, while the Canadian, winner of the queen stage on Saturday, won the general classification. The 28-year-old sprinter from the TotalEnergies team proved to be the strongest of a group of twenty riders, beating his compatriot Matteo Moschetti by a few centimeters to sign the 20th victory of his career, the first this year. Overall, Michael Woods was not worried, and it was therefore the first five of the stage which arrived in Les Angles on Saturday who finished in the Top 5 of this Route d’Occitanie 2022. The 35-year-old Canadian from the The Israel-Premier Tech team finished ahead of Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez by 1’16 and another Spaniard, Jesus Herrada, by 1’21. He won the eleventh victory of his career and especially his very first stage race. What put him in confidence less than two weeks before the Grand Départ of the Tour de France.

For the rest, this stage was marked by the morning breakaway of the best climber of this edition Winner Andrew Anacona (Arkéa-Samsic), Nurbergen Nurlykhassym (Astana Qazaqstan), Damien Touze (AG2R-Citroën), Ben Healy (EF Education- EasyPost), Niki Terpstra (TotalEnergies) and Maxime Urruty (Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur) but the race got carried away at 70 kilometers when a break cut the peloton in two.
