Americans Collin Morikawa and Joel Dahmen lead the US Open halfway through, one stroke ahead of a field of five golfers including Rory McIlroy. The only Frenchman in the running, Victor Perez, did not pass the cut.
Americans celebrate at the US Open! They are ten to occupy the first twelve places at the end of the second round on the greens of Brookline in Massachusetts. And halfway through, two men are in first place: the winner of the US PGA 2020 and the British Open 2021 Collin Morikawa (25), and the one who has never done better than tenth in a Major (at the US PGA 2020), Joel Dahmen (34). Both men surrendered a card of 135, four strokes under par. Morikawa did much better than the day before, with 66 shots against 69, thanks to four birdies against two bogeys. Dahmen, meanwhile, did less well (68 against 67), but still signed more birdies (4) than bogeys (2). Behind the duo, there is a group of five golfers who only point to one stroke, including Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. The suspense remains intact for the weekend, because no less than thirteen golfers stand in three strokes.
Perez seven shots from the cut
The tournament is however already over for the only Frenchman in the running, Victor Perez. The 29-year-old Tarbais, who was making his return to the Major after missing the first two of the season, returned a card of 74 on Friday, one shot more than Thursday, when he had to pass 140 to pass the cut. Author of five bogeys on the first thirteen holes, he birdied at hole n°15, but it was too late to hope to go further. He will try to do better the next month at the British Open on the greens of St-Andrews.
