Discreet leaders, Leclerc sent to the back of the grid
This last free practice session also saw the Red Bull Racing drivers come out of the garage very late. With only ten laps each on the clock, Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen did not attack to finish eighth and ninth respectively. They are ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr who, with 18 laps covered, was one of the most assiduous on the track. His teammate Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, was content with five “installation laps”, without establishing the slightest mark.
In effect, the Monegasque confirmed before the green light that he will have to start the Grand Prix this Sunday from the last row of the starting grid, alongside Yuki Tsunoda. A new thermal engine, a new thermal energy recovery system and a new kinetic energy recovery system have been installed in Charles Leclerc’s F1-75. Exceeding the quota allocated in this area, the Ferrari driver was penalized and will have to whip during the race to get back up.
