Three races that are not too demanding to get to know the world of trail running in its various aspects. It will happen to Madesimo, in Valchiavenna (SO), on 25 and 26 June. Having greeted the champions who will compete for the top positions, all the others will be able to tackle routes that in jargon are considered “fair” and reach the finish line without too much difficulty. Nothing better, therefore, for the baptism of trail running, moreover in a high altitude environment of great beauty. Madesimo Vertical and Summer Trail (the latter over two different distances) were born from the will of the Madesimo Tourist Consortium ( and are organized by the SSD Andromeda Sport.

The Vertical: three kilometers all uphill

The weekend opens with the Vertical Madesimo – Lago d’Emet, Memorial Silvio Gianera, which will lead from the bottom of the valley in the locality of Macolini (at 1,692 m above sea level), to the Bertacchi Refuge, near Lake Emet (2,196 m). The route measures three kilometers, all uphill, with a total difference in height of 500 meters and almost entirely follows path C6. Maximum time allowed: 1 hour. Participation in “walk” mode is foreseen, without ranking but with assistance and recognition of participation equal to those due to the agonists.

Madesimo Summer trail over two distances

Sunday 26 June will be the turn of the Madesimo Summer Trail. The Short race (9 km and 450 m D +) will allow you to climb the Andossi up to 1,930 meters of altitude, crossing the plateau of the same name between huts and pastures and passing by the church of San Rocco. You return to the village passing through the Valcava Alpine Garden, a fascinating wild gorge that is home to various native plant species.

The path of the Long (21 km and 890 m D +) follows that of the short race for the first 5 kilometers and then continues to Stuette, where the complete circumnavigation of Lake Montespluga will begin, complete with passing over the dam. In this phase of the race the differences in height are reduced e you can calmly admire the crown of peaks above the three thousand meters of altitude that separate Valchiavenna from Switzerland. Already on the way back you will skirt the Andossi lake (or delle Anatre), touching the highest point of the route at 2,060 meters above sea level, before rejoining the 9 km route that leads to the finish line. The UTMB® World Series has recognized this race as a qualifier in the 20 km category and valid for 1 ITRA (International Trail Running Association) point. Info and registration on
