Winner Thursday of its third game in a row, on the floor of TD Garden against Boston (103-90), Golden State won the seventh league title in its history, four years after its last coronation. Author of 34 points in this match 6 against the Celtics, Stephen Curry was named MVP of the finals for the first time in his career.

Stephen Curry and Golden State in seventh heaven. Four years after their last coronation, in 2018 (the Californians had already won the ring the previous year, in 2017), the Warriors won the seventh title in their history on Thursday, the fourth since 2015 for the San Francisco franchise, which at the same time climbed on the podium of the most successful clubs behind Boston and the Lakers (17 for the two franchises). The Celtics dreamed of winning an 18th star and thus leaving the Lakers in their mirrors. Unfortunately for Jayson Tatum and his family, these finals did not go at all as the C’s hoped. And even if Boston had led 1-0 then 2-1 in the series, the result clearly turned to the advantage of Golden State and the Warriors were able to pop the champagne Thursday evening in winning for the third time in a row (103-90) against the men of Massachusetts, already beaten on their TD Garden floor in game 4.

First for Curry

The players of Steve Kerr, who took the opportunity to add a ninth ring to his impressive collection (he already had five as a player before becoming a coach), already clearly in the lead at the break (54-39), logically dominated a new times of the Celtics who had however started better (12-2 entry) but could only really count on one of their two leaders Jaylen Brown (34 points), Tatum having again missed the meeting (13 points to 6 out of 18 on shots, 5 balls lost out of the 22 of his team during the evening). For his part, Stephen Curry responded. Author of 34 points in this game of deliverance which saw Draymond Green (12 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists) also do the Celtics very badly, the superstar leader of the Warriors, crowned champion for the fourth time in eight years too, was named MVP of these finals. Which had never happened to him before. “Nobody believed that we would be here a year ago, apart from the people who are there, on the floor. It’s surreal! And that was well worth the tears of the “angel-faced assassin.”
