Monaco went to win the first match of the Betclic Elite Finals (74-82) on the ASVEL floor and regained the advantage of the field in the series before the second round, still at the Astroballe.

The “Roca Team” strikes hard from the start! Like his performance at the Astroballe in Euroleague last January, Sasa Obradovic’s players gave ASVEL a very bad evening during Match 1 of the Betclic Elite Finals. A duel at the top that the Principality’s players got off to a flying start. If, after counting a lead of seven points, the teammates of Alpha Diallo (16 points) saw the Rhodaniens come back to height, a new boost gave an advantage which was to prove definitive to the Monegasques. Indeed, a 17-5 to finish the first quarter allowed them to exceed for the first time the bar of ten lengths in advance. Overwhelmed on both sides of the field, Elie Okobo’s teammates (17 points, 6 rebounds) withstood time at the start of the second quarter. But, once back to eleven lengths, TJ Parker’s players took on a new shine and flirted very closely with a deficit of 20 points.

Monaco did not give up anything to ASVEL

Under the leadership of William Howard (10 points), ASVEL ended the first half of the game on a high note, finding his locker room with a disbursement limited to thirteen lengths thanks to a 7-1 in the space of just over a minute. TJ Parker’s speech in the privacy of the locker room apparently worked because, during the first two minutes of the third quarter, there was only ASVEL. In the oven and in the mill, Youssoupha Fall (7 points, 10 rebounds) was the architect of this return to form… which absolutely did not last. Stung to the quick by this thunderous return of the Rhodaniens, the Monegasques responded tit-au-tac. In just under three minutes, Mike James (17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Paris Lee (8 points) conditioned an overheated Astroballe with an 11-0 that allowed the “Roca Team” to give themselves a little air. Aware that they had to react to avoid poor performance, the Villeurbannais redoubled their efforts through David Lighty (13 points) and Chris Jones (12 points).

Chris Jones, worry

But that was not enough to stay under ten points behind at the start of the last quarter. If Dylan Osetkowski (5 points) gave some hope to ASVEL supporters, Will Thomas (12 points, 7 rebounds) and a very precious Jerry Boutsiele (6 points), especially in defense sent the Rhodaniens back to their dear studies. Accelerating the game, the latter found solutions but without the gap narrowing sharply and quickly. The end of the match especially saw the Villeurbannais club probably lose Chris Jones, who was unable to leave the court on his own due to a muscle injury to his left thigh. Two last free throws made by Mike James in response to the three passed by Elie Okobo sealed the fate of the meeting. Monaco kicks off these Finals with an away success (74-82) which allows the “Roca Team” to overturn the table and now benefit from home advantage. An ascendancy that Sasa Obradovic’s men will have to confirm this Friday during Match 2, still at the Astroballe.
