GT, Valentino Rossi in Zandvoort for two World Challenge sprint races: entries and times

The GT World Challenge Europe championship reaches mid-season with the two races included in the Sprint Cup scheduled on the Dutch track of Zandvoort on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June. 25 GT3 class cars entered the fifth round of the year, the third of the cup that includes the short races, including the crew formed by Valentino Rossi and Frédéric Vervisch on the Wrt team Audi R8 Lms. The duo formed by Raffaele Marciello and Timur Boguslavskiy in Mercedes-Amg of the Akkodis team defends the leadership in the drivers’ standings in the main class. The two heats will be broadcast in free live streaming on the “GT World” YouTube channel and on Sky Sport.

GTWCE SPRINT CUP, ZANDVOORT: RACE, CARS, DRIVERS

It is the fifth round of a season that includes ten appointments, equally divided between Sprint and Endurance Cup. The two hour-long races are held on the Zandvoort track, which from 2021 has also returned to host the Dutch Formula 1 GP. , 4,307 kilometers long, with 14 curves and several ups and downs. The 25 registered crews representing 5 constructors are divided into the Pro categories, the main one with professional drivers, Silver Cup and Pro-Am, which also include gentlemen drivers. The grid includes some of the protagonists of the entire season: from the duo Marciello-Boguslavskiy in Mercedes, leader of the Sprint Cup classification, to Charles Weerts-Dries Vanthoor in the Audi R8 number 32 (Wrt), second in the standings, to Pierre Alexandre Jean- Ulysse de Pauw in a Ferrari 488 (AF Corse), third in the ranking (as well as first in the Silver class). Among the Italian drivers also Mattia Drudi and Luca Ghiotto, in the Audi di Tresor, in evidence in the first part of the season; Giorgio Roda in the Porsche 911 (Dinamic) with Klaus Bachler; Andrea Bertolini in a Ferrari 488 (AF Corse) with Louis Machiels.

VALENTINO ROSSI: RECENT RESULTS

In Zandvoort, a technical and not simple circuit, fresh from a restyling that excited the fans also on the occasion of F1 in 2021, the spotlight is also on Valentino Rossi, paired with Vervisch. The “Doctor” has recently achieved positive results, highlighting a growth in adaptation to the GT3 category and in the feeling with the Audi R8. The nine-time world champion in the World Championship, in fact, in the second Sprint race at Magny-Cours, had finished 11th, and in the following Endurance test at Paul Ricard he had scored an excellent 5th place overall.

THE SITUATION IN THE RANKING

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe championship includes an absolute ranking – drivers and teams – and specific rankings for the Sprint and the Endurance Cup, as well as rankings reserved for the various types of classes. Citing only the main occurrences, the Akkodis team (Mercedes, 103.5) leads the overall ranking, followed by Wrt (Audi, 94) and Tresor (Audi, 43.5); in the overall drivers standings, Marciello (Mercedes, 93.5 points) is ahead, followed by Vanthoor and Weerts (Audi, 71), third Boguslavskiy (Mercedes, 56.5).
