Doha – Qatar | His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Stars League, and Mr. Gianni Infantino, President of the International Football Association (FIFA), announced a strategic partnership agreement; It aims to raise the level of professional organization and management of all first and second division clubs in Qatar.
The two presidents signed the Memorandum of Understanding that followed an independent review of the organization that resulted in the identification of strategic initiatives to deliver competitive, fun and high-quality football.
On this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani said: “We are looking forward to the next stage of Qatari football after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. We have set an ambitious plan to make a difference in the football landscape of clubs, and one of the critical factors for the success of any club in the Qatar Stars League is to aspire to be a professional club to be emulated on and off the field. To help the Qatar Stars League and all its affiliate clubs on this journey, FIFA is an ideal partner, and through this agreement, we can collectively benefit from the tremendous experience, information and practical knowledge, and turn it into our advantage.”
Gianni Infantino said: “FIFA is pleased to support the development of the Qatar Stars League, as part of FIFA’s vision to make football truly global, and to create an integrated, sustainable and competitive global system in which more clubs, leagues and players from all over the world can compete at the highest level. . The MoU emphasizes the importance of setting new standards for the club’s performance off the field, and supporting its professional development. These criteria will be defined in the “club participation agreement” that the Qatar Stars League clubs will sign before the 2022-2023 season and cover six main areas related to clubs: club governance and management, football development, match day operations, profit making, marketing, social responsibility and fans .
All clubs will be required to have professional internal management teams, and budget plans to be implemented in the six areas. For clubs that do not comply with the “club participation agreement”, the necessary procedures will be applied according to the terms of the agreement, starting from the 2023-2024 season.
FIFA, as a partner of the Qatar Stars League, will support the league and its clubs by providing specialized assistance, organizing workshops in various fields of work, and ensuring the transfer of knowledge and ideas from the world’s leading leagues. Club executives will also have access to and benefit from the wider educational resources and courses available at FIFA, who will also be involved in the collection and analysis of club data.
