Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime in the last four

The first two seeds of the ‘S-Hertogenbosch tournament Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime qualified for the semi-finals by winning by the same score: 7-6, 6-4.

Logic respected in the last two quarter-finals at ‘S-Hertogenbosch! The seeds n°1 and 2 will be well at the rendezvous of the semi-finals. Daniil Medvedev, after beating Gilles Simon Thursday for his debut on grass, disposed of the 49th player Ilya Ivashka, in a Russian-Belarusian match between two players who will therefore not play the next Wimbledon. The one who will be world No. 1 next Monday (thanks to the withdrawal of points from Novak Djokovic’s victory at Roland-Garros last year) won 7-6, 6-4 in 1h52. Irregular in service (4 aces, 7 double faults, 2 breaks conceded), Medvedev suffered a little during this meeting, but was effective during key moments. In the first set, the two players chained breaks from 1-1 to 3-3, and after saving a set point on his serve at 5-6, Medvedev had to save another at 7-6 in the tie-break, before winning 10-8 on his third chance. The second set was less hectic. Both players easily won their face-off, until 5-4 when Medvedev broke his opponent at 5-4 on a shutout, at the best time. So here he is in the semi-finals for the third time this season, after the Australian Open and Acapulco. He will be opposed to Adrian Mannarino, who leads 3-1 in their confrontations, and 2-0 on grass.

Auger-Aliassime at the rendezvous

At the bottom of the table, Felix Auger-Aliassime will also be present in the last four, thanks to his victory by the same score as Medvedev: 7-6, 6-4 in 1h48 against Karen Khachanov. The Canadian served 8 aces and 59% of first serves during this meeting, where he almost lost the first set. Led 5-3 by the Russian, he managed to pick up at 5-5, then missed two set points at 6-5. Everything was decided in the tie-break, where he won 7-5 after missing two new set points. In the second set, it was at 3-3 that he made the difference by breaking Khachanov. “FAA” then had to save two balls from 4-4 and he finally won a little later, to play his third half of the season, after Marseille and Rotterdam. He will face the surprise of the week, the Dutchman Van Rijthoven, who beat Hugo Gaston.
