Organized every year since 2005, the Benelux Tour will finally not take place in 2022. The organizers of the event justified their decision by an overloaded cycling calendar and uncertainties in terms of security in the Netherlands.
The 2022 UCI World Tour calendar finds itself amputated by one event. A usual stage of the main world circuit of men’s professional cycling since 2005, the Benelux Tour will not be contested this year. Known by several names since its creation, Eneco Tour then Binck Bank Tour, the week-long stage race contested between the Netherlands and Belgium is suffering from a concern for position in the international calendar. ” For the organization, the postponement of the event is the only solution in order to avoid problems linked to an overloaded cycling calendar, especially at the logistical and media level., the organizers said in a statement. The pressure of this international cycling calendar causes several conflicts following which, in spite of vain attempts, postponement is the only possible solution. Scheduled from August 29 to September 4, the Benelux Tour had to face direct competition from the Vuelta and therefore adapt to it in terms of departure and arrival times.

The organizers intend to find solutions for 2023
In their press release, the organizers assure that “ the times of broadcast of the other races at the same time would have forced the organization to plan arrival times which would become uninteresting for the supporters and guests on site, as well as for the television viewers “. They add that “it would also lead to impossible departure times and travel for the teams”. Added to this are uncertainties as to the means deployed in the Dutch regions visited to secure the race. The managers of Golazo, the organizing company of the Benelux Tour, will “now look for a better date in 2023 with the UCI and the two national cycling federations “. “The postponement of the Benelux Tour to 2023 is regrettable for cycling fans in the Flat Countries, as well as for our team, which has been preparing for months already,” said Christophe Impens, member of Golazo. But it is a necessary decision and the only solution to avoid problems. All parties involved will take the opportunity to work towards an even better and stronger Benelux Tour for years to come. »
