After the re-election of the federal president, the Azzurri take to the field in Monaco for the continental review that will also be giving away the passes for the European Games of 2023
Confirmations and news come from Munich. From Germany, which yesterday was the seat of the 18th World Archery Europe elective congress, an important confirmation has arrived for the Italian archery scene: Mario Scarzella, former Fitarco president and deputy vice president of the world federation, with 37 favorable votes out of 38 was re-elected for the fifth consecutive term at the head of the European federation. As for the news, however, considering that the European Championships will also open tomorrow in Monaco, there is great interest in the debut of the Paralympic champion Elisabetta Mijno who, after excellent absolute results and three medals in four editions of the Paralympics, finally participates as a protagonist in his first international trip with the “able-bodied”.
The Azzurri arrived in Monaco yesterday, just in time to congratulate Scarzella who obtained re-election with the same numbers as vice president Hakan Cakiroglu (Tur) and three directors of the executive committee, Sabrina Steffens (Ger), Jean-Michel Cleroy ( Fra) and Daniel Pavlov (Bul). “It was a great day for me – said Scarzella after re-election which also saw the confirmation of the general secretary, Alessandra Colasante, and the presence of the World Archery president and CIO vice president, Ugur Erdener -. Having the support of 37 federations. out of 38 is an excellent result. The delegates have understood the work we are doing and are supporting it. It is never easy to complete a project but, all together, with a fully confirmed advice, we can do a great job. Now let’s think of the European Championship: a big good luck to all the participants, with the certainty of attending an event with a high competitive content which, in addition to the continental titles, is also giving away the first passes for the European Games of 2023 “.
The blues in the race
Just today the 296 archers enrolled representing 40 nations will begin to familiarize themselves with the competition field through the official test shots, waiting for the start tomorrow, while the conclusion of the event is scheduled for Sunday 13 June. Monaco is the fourth international outdoor trip for the Azzurri who have won two silver medals with the men’s Olympic trio in the first two stages of the World Cup, while at the European Grand Prix they have taken home 7 medals. The holders for the European Championship are Tokyo medalists Mauro Nespoli and Lucilla Boari, both fifth in the world ranking and, as mentioned, for the first time the Paralympic blue Elisabetta Mijno. The recurvo group will also see Alessandro Paoli, Federico Musolesi and Tatiana Andreoli on the shooting line, while in the compound there are Marco Bruno, Elia Fregnan, Valerio Della Stua, Elisa Roner, Marcella Tonioli and Sara Ret. The Azzurri will have Federal Councilor Elena Forte as head of delegation together with the National Olympic director Giorgio Botto, the coaches Matteo Bisiani and Amedeo Tonelli, the DT of the compound Flavio Valesella, the psychologist Manolo Cattari and the physiotherapist Andrea Rossi.
The competitions of the European Championships will officially start tomorrow, Tuesday 7 June, with the 72 ranking round arrows of the compound in the morning and those of the Olympic in the afternoon determining the scoreboards of the direct matches. Team competitions will start on Thursday morning with the matches from the round of 16 to the semifinals, while in the afternoon the matches of the individual draws will be completed up to assigning the places in the final.
