James, tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is James Harding, I’m 24 years old and am currently playing for Hungerford Town in the National League South. Having spent 20 years growing up in High Wycombe I then went to study a Sports Business Management degree alongside a full time football program at Hartpury University. This resulted in me making the decision to relocate and now I find myself living in the Cotswolds.
What type of striker are you ? And what are your specific qualities as a football player?
I’d like to say that I am a striker that when given a chance in front of goal, would take it. I have worked tirelessly over the last 5-6 years on my finishing so I would say that is my best attribute.
Who are the most important people within football environment?
For me I don’t think there is one important person in a footballing environment it’s a collective effort as a group. I’d say from a player’s point of view you want everyone on the same page and working towards the same goal, certainly no big time charlies!
Could you tell us about your experience at youth football?
Growing up as a kid I just played local football on a Saturday and Sunday which I loved, Football became a lot more serious when I joined the FAB academy which is based at Bisham Abbey NSC. This was a full time football program which led to a few trials with pro clubs and my first chance in non-league too.
James, you have also previously played for Gloucester City AFC in the National League. How did you experience these period?
Gloucester City is a great club and I did enjoy my time there, in hind sight I probably wasn’t ready to play that level and looking back the best thing I did was go out and get game time in the lower leagues.
What can you remember about your first team debut with Gloucester City AFC ?
It was a memorable one! We played against AFC Fylde, I came on and managed to score to make it 3-3. However the referee disallowed the goal in very strange circumstances! If you watch the video below you will see what I mean.
What were your highs and lows during your football career?
One of my main highs would be scoring 60 senior goals in Men’s Football, another would be winning the golden boot at Cinderford Town last season and also reaching the play off final the year before, it was a great team to be a part off. One of my lowest points in my career so far would have to be when I tore my hamstring and was out for 4 months.
What is the best thing about playing for Hungerford Town FC ?
The best thing about playing for Hungerford is the group of players and management without a doubt. Everyone is there for the same reason and that is to keep proving people who wrote us off at the start of the season wrong and so far, we’ve been doing that. The club is in fantastic hands off the pitch and it will be great to meet the fans once they are allowed back in.
James, what are your personal goals for the rest of this season ?
On a personal note it is to try and score as many goals as possible to help the team finish as high up the league as we possibly can.
And what is your ultimate dream in your football career ?
For me it would be scoring goals in the football league but in the short term I want to focus on scoring goals in the National League!
