Ryan, What type of defender are you ?
I’d describe myself as an old school type of defender, putting my head in where some people wouldn’t think of putting their foot, love a tackle and don’t mess about.
Why did you start playing football? And were you immediately a defender ?
I was introduced to football by my dad at a young age and never really looked back, as a youngster I started as a midfielder but was moved to defence as I was the tallest in my team and from there on I played as a defender.
Who was the player, or players, you looked up to most growing up, and why?
Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, Vidic was a tough centre back and loved a challenge like myself, Rio Ferdinand was more of a technical defender who was good on the ball, was good to watch two different types of centre backs who made up a great partnership.
Ryan, your career started with the Norwich City FC and Cambridge United FC Academies. How did you experience these period?
They were good experiences where I learnt a lot from my time at both clubs not just in a football sense but also in a way of life skills, with both clubs I went on tour abroad and would be away from my family for either a few days or a week, these experiences taught you how to look after yourself and prepare yourself for games.
After your time by Cambridge United FC, you moved to Dereham Town FC and Wisbech Town FC. Did you noticed a lot of difference between these clubs?
When I left Cambridge I then played for Dereham for half a season before moving to Kings Lynn, I then had loan spells with Dereham and Wisbech, these loan spells only lasted 2 games each and I didn’t train with them, so couldn’t really notice a difference.
Ryan, what were your highs and lows during your football career?
The highs would be the 4 promotions I had with Kings Lynn Town FC over a 10 year spell with the club and the low would be last season spending 6 months injured and having to have an operation in my knee.
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever experienced in a match?
Nothing too crazy to be honest, just a few pitch invasions and fights braking out between fans on and off the pitch during the game.
On this moment you’re playing for Kettering Town FC. What is the best thing about playing for Kettering Town?
Kettering have a great set of lads over there at the moment and I get on really well with them all, also it’s a big club in non-league with a lot of history.
Ryan, what are your personal goals for the rest of this season?
To help Kettering finish as high as possible in the league, to continue to improve my game and hopefully take it to the next level.
And what is your ultimate dream in your football career ?
I’d probably say To play at the highest level possible for as long as I can.
