Introduce yourself…

Hi I’m Maliq Morris and I play for Dulwich Hamlet FC.

How important is football for you?

Football is massive for me, It’s my life. It gives me the opportunity to express myself. I use it as a release for things that happen off the pitch that you may be down about on a day to day.

Maliq, who are the most important people within football environment?

I’d say Gavin Rose, Junior Kadi and Glen Thompson.

What are your specific qualities as a Midfielder?

My main quality would be my passing. My range of passing, different types of passing using different parts of the foot.

What is the most important football lesson you have learned and who taught you that?

The most important lesson i have learnt from football is that hard work beats talent. When I first joined Aspire I thought that being a ‘luxury’ player was ‘cool’ and that I could make a career out of being the player that doesn’t offer anything off of the ball. After meeting Junior Kadi and Glen they changed the way I looked at the game and I owe and thank them for that.

You came from the youth of Dulwich Hamlet FC. Did you noticed a lot of difference between the youth and the first team ?

Yes there’s a huge difference. A huge difference in everything. From the quality of players to the way the players approach training and everything they do. I’d say the tempo is more intense and it’s a lot more physical of course.

On 20 July 2019 you made your debut for Dulwich Hamlet FC in a friendly match against Tottenham Hotspur FC. How important was that moment for you ?

Yes I’d say it was a great moment for me playing in front of so many fans and getting my first real taste of men’s football.

You’re one of the youngest players in the team. Do you notice a lot of difference between the different ages in the team?

Yes in certain ways. I can see the difference between how the older and more experienced players act in comparison to us younger players. They act really professional with everything they do, even the littlest of things and i look up to a lot of the players.

Maliq, what are your personal goals for the rest of this season?

I’m currently on loan and I’d like to finish off successfully. Hopefully I can make a couple appearances in the league and keep on developing as a player.

You’re only 16 years old, what is your ultimate dream for your football career ?

My dream is to play in the premier league. Play in the biggest stadiums with the best players and win the biggest trophies.
