|Date of Birth:|
|Place of birth:|
I’m Ben Newey, I’m 19 years old and just started my second season in senior football. I am goalkeeper at Leamington FC, played at Rushall Olympic and Lye town on loan last season for much needed experience.
How important is football for you?
Football is what determines my mood 90% of the time. Football is everything to me, don’t know what I would do without it haha.
What makes you a good goalkeeper ?
I think what makes me a good goalkeeper is my shot stopping, handling and kicking. I’m very agile as I’m not the biggest! And have very reliable hands. I’m also a commanding goalkeeper and likes to talk all game.
Who are the most important people within football environment?
Most important people in football for me are the coaching staff, without a gaffa who knows what he’s doing and how to get a team gelled and knowing the game plan, from experience it becomes really tough.
What is the most important football lesson you have learned and who taught you that?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in football is a tough one, I’ve learned so much over the past 2 years for sure. I think the most important is communication, and I was taught that from my goalkeeper coach Chris from Birmingham.
In the youth did you play football for Birmingham City FC. How was your time there?
My time at Birmingham was brilliant. Easily one of the best youth set ups around. I trained with the u23s at ages 17/18 which really stepped my game up and matured me.
You also spent time at Burton Albion FC. What did you learned by Burton Albion FC?
I was at burton Albion from 10-12 years old. I think this is when I started to take football serious. Burton was a very important time in my career and I wouldn’t have gone to Birmingham if it wasn’t for them!
Ben besides your period at Birmingham City FC and Bortun Albion FC, you have played football at several football clubs. At which club did you learned the most?
Yes I have played at a few clubs, so far in my senior career I’ve played at leamington, Rushall Olympic and lye town. I’ve definitely learned the most at leamington about football, mainly to do with the gaffa Paul Holleran, probably the best around! I also learned and matured a lot being number 1 at Rushall Olympic for several games under Liam Mcdonald.
What are your personal goals this season?
This season I want to go out on loan again and play be a number 1 at step 3 again. Hopefully get my name out there a bit more and impress.
What is your ambition in your football career?
Overall for my football career just like most lads, I want to turn professional, it’s all I’ve wanted to do my whole life. But if not I hope to have a great non league career, I would love to commit to a club and be Number 1 there for years rather then moving around.
Hopefully I can do this with Leamington!
