Interview

Introduce yourself…

My names Nyren Clunis 27 years old and current player for Dulwich Hamlet FC.

How important is football for you?

Football is and has been very important to me all my life, it’s like meditation or a getaway from all other aspects of life. It’s something I love doing and something I wanna do for as long as possible.

Who are the most important people within football environment?

I feel the most important people in a football environment is the fans, in all honesty without the fans I wouldn’t be excited to play week in week out, and they have been amazing ever since I’ve been here.

What are your specific qualities as a midfielder?

Some of my main qualities as a midfielder would be my pace, I’ve always been a fast player which is a plus but I’m also tidy with the ball at my feet.

Nyren, you have scored a lot of goals for Dulwich Hamlet FC. What was your most beautifull or most important goal ?

The feeling at the time of when I scored against Billericay and we won 3-1 away was a big goal for me, I felt at that moment we was destined to go up and get promoted from this league.

You have made your debut in the first team of Dulwich Hamlet FC in November 2009. How important was this debut for you?

Making my debut at 17 was important for me because it made me realise that the management staff had faith in me to compete in men’s football at a young age and it’s always encouraging knowing you are backed by your manager.

What were your highs and lows during your football career?

My highs in my career have to be all the promotions I have achieved and also scoring a 100+ goals for a great club my lows would have to be all play off defeats, it’s very disappointing that you’re so close to being promoted but yet so far.

A few years ago, you received the Manager’s Player of the Year award. Were you surprised by that award?

I had mixed feelings when I won managers player award that year, I believed Riese Allisani was a strong candidate, but other than him I would’ve expected it I worked hard that year.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

I’d say one of my biggest footballing inspirations would have to be Thierry Henry, ever since I was young I wanted to be like him he played with such class, he has and for the for see able future will be the best striker Arsenal has had.

What are your personal goals this season?

With the squad we have this year we should be looking at nothing less than promotion, I also hope to pick my goal scoring from this year because I am more than capable.
